4Nice Product, GREAT customer support!  Nov 13, 2010 By R. Cant
I bought this mainly for the ability to navigate through folders that contained full albums of music from a usb flash drive. The unit is small, plugs directly into a cigarette lighter, comes with a handy little remote and has a lot more functions than you would expect from an item this reasonably priced. The previous review from A. Preston sums up a lot of the features and was very helpful to me when I was shopping. (thanks A!). Here's what I have to add.

There's not a lot of information available about how many folders or songs the player can read or how they read them, so I thought I would add that information for future shoppers.

The unit can access up to 99 folders and up to 1999 mp3's. You don't need to have a master folder as in some of the other models from this company. You can have folders inside folders up to a depth of 5, however the unit is only going to show you the names of the folders and their assigned folder number (as opposed to a directory tree like you would see on a computer). The player will see up to 32 gb of either usb flash drive OR SD card memory at one time. The display can show up to 32 characters(scrolling) for song name, 16 characters for artist name and 15 characters for album name in now playing screen.

Since my main goal was to play complete albums, my math is based on averages of my albums...you'll need to figure the true maximum amount of music you can store based on your preferences in bitrate. I was able to fit 99 albums on one 10gb flash drive and 99 albums on a 10gb SD card, giving me 198 albums to choose from without removing anything from the system. Remember, you're limited to 99 folders TOTAL, not 99 x 5 depth. :))

The only con I can think of for this is the fm transmitter portion of it. I'd highly recommend plugging it into an aux input or if you have a cassette player, a cassette adapter works nicely. When using the FM transmitter, the signal strength varies quite a bit and you wind up getting a lot of hiss from the radio. AUX works great though.

Lastly and definitely not least would be the customer service. I had several questions before I purchased and was answered each time within 24 hours with a personal reply...not some canned FAQ response.

Thanks for your help, Arthur!

I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

5Shaking hands with Satechi  Nov 22, 2010 By LunaRae W
Soundfly AUX MP3 Player Car Fm Transmitter for SD Card, USB Stick, Mp3 Players (iPod, Zune, Sansa) with Remote Control has been the first Satechi product I have purchased. I have been extremely pleased with my purchase. I love the menu, folder, and navigation functions when listening to media I have on my SD cards. I am using 4GB cards presently. They only take a few seconds to load. When you can organize media into folders its wonderful to be able to use the Navigation function and get to what you want to listen to fast. I mostly listen to books. So I name my folders after the book, navigate to the book I want and play. Bookmark it when I stop and it resumes when I start the car back up.

I also listen to books on my Sansa through the Soundfly. Its the only way prestently I have to listen to the books I get through Audible.com. Doing it through Sansa you then use the Sansa menu and functions for pausing and playing and such. The Soundly essentially is your "headphone set". If you have an SD card or USB Stick in the Soundfly when using the Sansa you need to remember to pause the Soundfly. The media that was in it will continue to play even though you can't hear it while listening to Sansa.

I'm just really happy that I don't have to wear headphones anymore when driving in order to listen to what I want. I don't care for radio anymore. I'm also glad I don't have to burn everything onto discs to listen to car deck- which could not read mp3. This was a perfect, economical solution. Saved me from having to buy a new car deck to enjoy my mp3 media.

A word about Satechi and why I'm shaking hands with them. The menu function on the first unit I received was not working properly. I could tell I had a quality item in my hands, liked how it looked, felt and what it was supposed to be able to do but wasn't. So, I hoped something could be done to leave me satisfied. I followed the instructions on the invoice to contact Satechi about the issue. I got an email within an hour informing me that a new unit was being sent out with prepaid postage to return defective unit. I was impressed with their quick response and solution. They know they have a quality product and glitches are not impossible but are rare. The new unit arrived even faster than original. It is working perfectly. Absolutely love it and am happy Satechi offered such praiseworthy service.

Thank you. (shaking hands)

5Exactly what I was looking for and more..  Nov 04, 2010 By A. Preston
I was in a search for car mp3 player for a long time, but couldn't find the one that met my needs. There were three things I was looking for: able to play through aux port in my car (much clear sound compared to fm transmission), able to view song and folder name, able to resume the audiobook where I left off. Soundfly Aux does it all and more. Here are the things I like and I don't like:

Pros:

1) Beautiful design: Matches perfectly with my silver interior dash trim, actually it looks like it is part of the car.
2) Easy set-up: Plug in to the cigarette lighter, plug in the aux cable, put the SD card in and it starts to play music immediately. Although there are six buttons on the device itself, there are so many functions, so keep the manual with you until you get used to main functions.
3) Song and file info: While music is playing, you can see the song name, artist name, folder name and play time info on the screen. When you press the NAVI button, you see all the songs in the folder, then press the menu button, and you can visually go through all the folders. This is a neat option that I wasn't expecting.
4) Bookmark: This is the main function I was looking for and it is so easy with Soundfly Aux. Push and hold the play button while the music is playing and it bookmarks the exact play time. It is better to use this function just before you leave the car.
5) Contrast: It is great that there is a contrast option, I can get a much better view of the screen, when I increase the contrast during the day time.
6) Remote control: You can use all the functions with the remote. It helps a lot to keep an eye on the road.

Cons:
1) Not able to play DRM audiobooks from Audible, only mp3: I just did a google search, audible and drm, and found the necessary software for conversion, but still wish it could play natively.
2) Fast-forward is only through the remote control, so don't lose the remote.
3) Just the screen could be better looking, but I think they did it for anti glare purposes.

Apart from that, this is the only car mp3 player in the market with all the functions I wanted and I am very happy that it works as expected. Highly recommended!..

3A couple of things to bear in mind  Jan 11, 2011 By Explorer
On the plus side, the Soundfly AUX plays static free. It also sounds good enough that after a few minutes I'd forgotten I was listening through a device broadcasting through the radio.

It's also pretty simple to operate.

On the minus side, I'm flustered by how this unit sorts its songs. I'm not sure of how the unit decides the order to play the songs in, but it's not like my pocket-sized mp3 player, or like the mp3 player on my computer. If you feed a folder of songs to the unit, and they're numbered 01, 02, 03, etc, the AUX might or might not play them in that order. I've never seen another player do that before. The Soundfly AUX doesn't play the songs in alphabetical order, either. (And no, I didn't have the unit set to shuffle.)

Another thing bothers me about the AUX. Let's say that you're driving and you turn off the Soundly using its power button. You'll naturally hear static coming through the radio, since the AUX is no longer broadcasting, so you turn off the radio, too. So far so good. You reach your destination and turn off the engine, but the next time you turn on your ignition, the Soundfly AUX will power on with it and automatically start playing music, even though your radio might still be off. This can be irritating. I think this the first product I've ever seen that would switch itself back on spontaneously.

While these irritants didn't make me send the unit back, they're two major drawbacks that I think consumers should be aware of.

5Believe the hype  Sep 13, 2011 By R. Jones "Tech fiend"
I had just come back from a road trip from Hampton Roads, VA to Cincinnati and back. My accord doesn't have AUX in, but I love my iPod Touch, and got a Belkin FM transmitter for, like, $80. Gotta work well for that price, right? WRONG. The only place I was relatively static free was in the mountains, at 2000 feet. Other than that, I was constantly changing broadcast stations, looking for new "blank" ones, and even trying their auto-tune thingy which is supposed to do the work for you. It was horrible. Tried a Scosche, no better. So, I went online here to see what was rated highly.

Enter the Soundfly.

So many positive reviews, I wondered if the company execs forced their employees to write favorable reviews to boost the ratings. I gave it a shot anyway. Put it in a cupholder 12v expander I had, so it's down low in the car. Chose a frequency that didn't seem TOO bad, and headed back to Cincinnati.

The reviews are totally legit! I didn't have to change the frequency from the time I left until I got past the Ohio border! It was totally clear, great volume, and the bass and treble controls actually DO boost the bass and treble! Hooked my iPod to it using a standard mini cable and worked great! Put some mp3's on an SD card and threw that in it, and it was great, showing artist and title, the folders I put songs in, just pimpin'! How many exclamation points can I put in one review?

Seriously, I don't know how they sell it so cheap, but it is worth double the price on here, certainly better than any other FM transmitter I've ever used. And if I decide to change the radio one day, and it has aux, this is already prepared for that. There's a slight learning curve as far as what controls/adjustments are where, but it is totally worth it.

Buy it - you will not be disappointed, I promise!
