5Exactly what I wanted  Aug 20, 2010
This computer remote is really easy to use. I've had it for a few weeks now and have had no problems at all.

2Mouse function useless  Jul 25, 2010
The mouse function is too hard to use, especially for left-to-right motion.

There are also no function keys.

It is Win-centric, with special keys for Windows, making it less favorable for a XBMC/MythTV Linux HTPC, although the keys can be remapped.

1Nice keyboard, horrible mouse  Jul 16, 2010
My wife and I bought this keyboard for our new HTPC and were very excited about the size. The size and the feel of the keyboard are great. It feels very solid in the hands and works automatically upon connecting the USB dongle. After using it for a few moments, we soon realized the horrible mouse function of the keyboard. We have a 52 inch flatscreen tv which is about 10 feet away from our couch. We constantly had to recenter the mouse pointer because we would be pointing the device far off screen and the cursor would only move a few inches. We changed all the sensitivities going up and down to no avail. After using the mouse for a while, my hands would be bent at weird angles just to make it across the screen. Eventually the mouse began to move by itself to the left which made things even harder. It was a struggle to enjoy something that we hoped would be alot of fun. While the keyboard functions worked well, the horrible mouse function more than overshadows it.

4Great for HTPC use, no setup, just plug and play!  Jul 14, 2010
I had been considering a variety of wireless keyboards for my HTPC (Home Theater PC) and landed on this one for a few different reasons. I've got it hooked up to an aging Dell laptop that I am using as an HTPC until I can get my hands on a Mac Mini (the keyboard is dual compatible and I have a MacBook and it works the same on there). My main reasons for choosing this model were:
1. Form factor - the keyboard seemed to be a decent size for easy thumb typing
2. Cursor/Mouse movement via movement of the unit - I liked the idea of not having a trackpad or trackball to move the cursor, you could just move the unit and the cursor would move.
3. Price - this was one of the cheapest small keyboards I could find.

Based on these three, I think I made a great choice. It delivers on the first two for sure, its very easy to thumb type, and it feels like a game controller in your hands when you are moving the cursor around the screen. The left and right mouse/trigger buttons on the front edge make clicking and dragging or right clicking on items very easy. For [...], I am very happy with my purchase, but I do realize that there are a few things that would make this an even better product.

1. There's no setup, but...there's no setup. The ability to customize keys would be nice, especially since there are no function keys. No F keys is a major miss in my mind since F11 is pretty universal in web browsers to enter and exit full screen mode. Having user definable keys would solve this problem. Since you can still select fullscreen from a menu, its not a dealbreaker, its just a slight nit.
2. A sticky trigger. On mine, the left mouse/trigger button sticks every once in a while. It's probably just my unit and I could have sent it back for another, but I didn't bother. It's just an annoyance but nonetheless, it knocked the product down a notch in my eyes.
3. Lack of backlight. The logitech DiNovo Mini is one of the others I considered, which had this feature, which in retrospect is nice for when you are sitting in a darkened room watching a streaming movie and want to see the keys, but in all honesty, it's really not all that important as the spacebar pauses and resumes in most media players, so I wouldn't typically be needing to see all the keys in the dark. I'm not planning on typing a novel in the dark with the thing. Again, a nice to have, but for the price certainly not a major issue.

The only other comment I have is on the accuracy of the cursor movement when moving the device. As other have mentioned it does take some getting used to, and I do find myself "resetting" it a lot by re-centering it in my hands by "pushing" the alignment back into place by getting the cursor to the appropriate side or top or bottom of the screen and tilting/moving the keyboard so that the cursor acts correctly again.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend it, especially for the price, even with the few glitches and limitations. It's great for watching Netflix on demand or YouTube videos and just surfing the web on my TV, and short emails or chats are well within the capabilities of this device.

5Better than Rii & diNovo  May 20, 2010
I have the Rii also and I have to say that if you are wanting to know what is better for an HTPC remote, hands down this Cideko air keyboard kills them.

Why?
*The mouse-shoulder buttons are intuitive for clicking stuff, fitting nice in your hand like a gamepad. With the Rii or diNovo you must change hand-positions too frequently.
*the keys in the cideko can all be reached by your thumbs for fast thumb-texting. the Rii is HORRIBLE for typing because of that touchpad that you can't wrap your right-hand around. If you use the cideko and then use the Rii you are so spoiled that you get frustrated with the awkward way in which you must hold the remote.
*Most of all, the Air-mouse built in the Cideko is 100x faster to navigate with because you just point. AND i can drag-n-drop with the cideko just as easily as i do with a regular mouse.

Lastly i feel the media keys and arrow keys are positioned much better for playing movies and music. Even better then the diNovo's.

I have researched a lot for the best HTPC remote and this is it. It is even better than the Lenovo. And what is funny is that this Cideko air keyboard isn't even marketed to the HTPC audience.. yet it is clearly the best one.

My only gripe is that sometimes the mouse pointer moves on rare occations without me moving it. I find the best way to solve this is by flipping it over and laying it motionless on it's face.. i don't know why it works but it somehow recalibrates/centers itself.
Also, sometimes when i reboot the computer and turn this air-keyboard on the connection to the dongle can sometime act weird and rebooting and waiting out the 4-minute idle self-shutdown on the cideko tends to clear it up.
