5Best price/performance  Apr 13, 2010 By Kevin Perron
Awesome product, useful for home theater or for an "on the go" portable solution. They unit itself is very discreet, with a rubberized mat black texture. Key's are very responsive, but most notably is the "Multi-Fingers Smart-Pro" touchpad.

The touchpad, while very responsive (almost too responsive, I had to go into touchpad settings and crank it down to the lowest setting), is aware of incidental movement/touches to the touchpad. If you accidentally hit it with your palm or with more than one finger, it does not send the pointer flying.

The only thing the touchpad is missing, compared to other touchpads, is the scroll function on the right side, however this was not an issue, as I rarely use that.

My only complaint would be that the right hand ctrl, alt, and windows keys, as well as they spacebar are a bit too small and require a little getting used to. The manufacturer included the tilde key and a second semicolon/backslash key right next to the spacebar. They could have done away with at least the extra semicolon key, and perhaps placed the tilde key in a more convenient location, to give a little more size to the spacebar and ctrl, alt, and win keys.

The range on this is keyboard is wonderful. While just the standard 2.4 GHz, it outperforms other wireless devices. When I hook my laptop up to my TV for viewing photo slideshows or iTunes media content on the bigscreen it works flawlessly, much better than my big clunky wireless keyboard and mouse from Logitech that was an eye-sore in my living room and constantly losing sync with they dongle if at the wrong angle.

This sits nicely tucked away somewhere or even on the coffee table without taking up much space, and looks very smart.

Another nice feature is an on/off switch on the bottom of the keyboard. I often travel with it in my backpack, as I prefer to use an external mouse and/or keyboard when travelling with my laptop. The unit is no longer wasting precious battery life bumping keys around in my backpack while on the road.

No software to install, Windows 7 recognized it instantly and it worked flawlessly. The unit comes with a USB dongle and a short USB extension cable in case you need it, although I haven't had any problems with they keyboard losing sync from long distances.

There is no manual included, but none is needed. It truly is plug and play.

I've owned Adesso products in the past, and this one is more discreet, cordless, and at a better price point than most of it's wireless competitors. Satechi shipped the item quickly, and it arrived on-time and in good condition.

5Great Keyboard for HTPC Use  Jun 02, 2010 By Fred J. Love
I got this keyboard to go with my home theater PC and I love it. I was initially looking at the Adesso WKB-4000US (which a friend has) but decided on this one because the on/off switch and the LEDs that indicated transmitting, pairing, and low battery. The soft rubber-like material is much more comfortable than the hard surface of the Adesso. For some reason my keyboard lost it's pairing with the USB dongle. Pairing was very easy as you just press the pairing button on the bottom of the laptop. Mine did come with a manual (which described the process for pairing). I have been using it for 3 weeks now with the batteries that came in the box. Even if you don't turn it off the keyboard goes into a low power mode and you just need to press the CRTL key to wake it up. As mention in the previous review it is 100% plug-and-play and is automatically recognized by Windows 7 (no need to install any software). The integration trackpad, light weight, compact size, and soft touch material makes this the perfect HTPC keyboard.

4Will work on Mac with USB Overdrive  Jan 15, 2011 By M. Crow
Like just about every non-MacBook trackpad, this keyboard's pad has a tap-to-click function that CANNOT be disabled with either the Windows or Mac mouse controllers. Moreover, neither platform's controllers can adjust the sensitivity of a 3rd party track pad.

Fortunately, a piece of inexpensive software called USB Overdrive can control just about any trackpad plugged into a Mac USB, transforming this (and similar keyboards) from an endless source of frustration into a really great input device. :)

As for the keyboard itself, I own the Adesso version, and this one is much better. It has 2-finger scroll and only uses two batteries as opposed to four, which makes switching out the rechargeables much easier (both keyboards really need rechargeable AAA batteries)

4Finally...Long range, simple, professional looking HTPC (maybe) keyboard!!  Aug 08, 2010 By W. Hill "crusherv65"
Short version review in paragraph one and two.

I love it. Because...
It works at long range perfectly.
It pairs with finger touch without leaving the couch.
It appears solidly built.
It looks professional and kind of cool.

Possible Improvements?
No media center controls.
Mis-labeled left Windows key.
Incidental left palm brushes on smart pad.

Now the long version...

I am starting to type this review 35 feet from my computer, through a bedroom wall. WOW! Walked out, and here are the words I typed!!! 5 stars for that attribute!! I've bought other KB/mouse combos claiming long range, and the best one needs new batteries to reliably reach 12' for a week or two. And that's if no kid's shoulder/foot/chair/book, etc... gets in the line of site. This little jewel is pumping perfection with only 2 cheap-o AAA's that came with it in the box.

Setup? Windows Vista. Plugged in the USB receiver and the included short extension cable, put batteries in. Turned switch "on" underneath keyboard, and voila! Tossed my crappy old "long range" keyboard that held me hostage for months. What an abusive relationship THAT had been!

I didn't have to pair the KB to the computer. It did it itself. BUT, if I DID have to pair it, there is a button under the KB you can simply finger press (no tool!) that will do the job w/o leaving the couch! This alone is genius, compared to having to find a pen/fork/pin laying around, carrying the KB to the computer and pressing a button on the receiver, etc...and then within seconds cramming a fork prong into the tiny KB button. Nope. Out of the stone age and into sweet comfort with this bad boy. One finger touch button to pair it. While still on the couch...ahhhhh.

It has a decent weight, making me optimistic on build quality. They didn't try to cheat on materials, apparently. It looks cool and professional...so far. I wouldn't call it sexy, but looking around, it would get far more electronics date offers than my old setup could have hoped to. I hope it doesn't wear visibly on the palm rest areas like the Adesso.

Touch and layout? Typing feels a bit cheap to me as a first impression. They say silent, but it surely isn't. But it isn't super loud either. Decent feedback on keys. You know when you've hit one, but its still easy. I found the Windows logo key to the left of spacebar is actually an ALT key. I'll simply remember that and deal with it, since the Windows key on the right side reliably performs that function.

One reviewer mentioned it lacks a right-side scroll on the touchpad. I'm glad. Instead, you put two fingers anywhere on the pad and it knows you want to scroll. Here, I can be lazy and scroll from anywhere on the smart pad.

OK. Here comes the negative...so far. Keep in mind I only set it up hours ago. When typing, I find the curser jumps and I'll be typing in a paragraph above suddenly. The fault? The smartpad is sensitive and my palm must brush it periodically, sending the curser to a new location. This is frustrating so far, but already in typing this note, I have adjusted my hands and this randomness is greatly improving. And I'm larger than most, at around 220 with a wide frame...and I've lifted weights so my arms may come in at an awkward angle compared to others. Even with this problem, I'm super happy. For all I know I can switch off the smart pad temporarily...and if not, my typing adjustments will triumph.

I'd have to be too picky to complain further. I docked one star due to the mis-label of the left windows key, and my random inadvertent brushing of the smartpad. If they moved the smartpad 1/3" to the right, it probably would be solved. It is not centered between the hands when in the proper typing position.

Also, I don't see any Media Center keys for shortcuts or movie/tv/audio controls. So what? At least I have a KB that actually works at a distance. My computer came with a Media Center remote anyway. For this review, I'll subscribe to the "Do one thing...and do it well" mindset.
