Description

Solid quality with a small price compared to NIKON MC-30. It is handy for reducing camera shake on super telephoto shots, macro-photography, and bulb exposures. Pressing the shutter button halfway enables auto-focusing; pressing the shutter button all the way down releases the shutter. Lock the button for long exposures or continuous shooting. Fully compatible to: Nikon D700, D300, D300S, D200, D3, D2H, D2Hs, D2x, D1, D1H, D1x, F100, F6, F5, F90X and F90

5Save your money and get this one  Jun 06, 2008 By A. Weed
Why pay over $100 or even $70 for a simple shutter release? If you need distance from your camera, wireless capabilities, or still be able to set functions on the camera from a distance, then get a more expensive remote; it will be worth it. But if you are looking for a simple corded shutter release, save your money and get this one. Sure, it doesn't feel as sturdy as the more expensive ones; but how sturdy does a simple button have to be to make a shutter release? This one is just as good quality as the Nikon simple shutter release, but after using it several times I think it is probably better than Nikon's (I'm not a gentle person when it comes to remotes). It has worked perfect on my D300 in both my studio and travels, and fits comfortably in my hand. I use it for night shots (lots of night shots) and product studio long exposures. As an example, I used this remote to make most of the photos used on CompassRoseGeocoin.com. I could not have any camera shake when taking those photos.

Update: I ended up losing the first one of these I purchased after using it for several hundred photos (It was much sturdier than I thought). I wasn't too upset since the cost was so low, but I would have been livid if I were to lose one of those more expensive remotes. After finding out of the loss, I did more research to see if there are any new options for remotes; but this remote still seems to be the best value on the market today. Therefore I was happy to buy a second one.

4Great inexpensive alternative to the factory offerings  Apr 25, 2008 By overlander23
Considering the price difference between this remote shutter release and Nikon's own somewhat overpriced offerings this is a no brainer provided it works. And it does! And why shouldn't it? This type of electro-mechanical shutter release really shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

To be fair, the unit isn't as robust or solid feeling as Nikon's own, but it should work for awhile.

I'm using it successfully with a D200.

4Works as advertised  Jul 09, 2007 By S. Pinkham
Works very well with my d200 so far, better than spending over $100 on some model. It does the job. Thanks.

3All Coiled Up  May 20, 2009 By Rainman
A simple, cheap, shutter release that works.

That coil in the wire can be a real problem if you're trying to have a very stable platform where absolutely no movement is required. The cable transfers movement easily into the camera, so holding the remote while doing some macro shots made quite a few blurry photographs. I did assume correctly before I bought the product that the "36" inch length of the wire to be within the coil. That isn't necessarily a problem for me, but I thought I'd just say for those thinking that you're getting a three foot cable you're wrong, unless maybe you stretch out the cable as far as you can. Good luck getting it to stay like that.

2Pretty useless  Jul 23, 2009 By Nick
I should have known this from the picture - but this item is not designed well. You want to use a cable release to minimize camera vibration on long exposure. The coiled cable transmits vibrations back to the camera very easily. The cord is too short to set down on the ground or on a stable surface. You can't let it hang, because it will bounce all over the place and transmit the vibrations back to the camera, like a pendulum. If you're doing a bulb exposure for any considerable length of time (1 min or more), you'll find holding the release for the whole time very impractical. Don't buy this - get the longer cable product.

Build quality feels flimsy and a few times I had to press the release button twice for it to trigger.
