Great Support Aug 28, 2010 The controls are a little odd and for me, not all that intuitive, so I carry their cryptic little instructions in my bag when I go shoot. But the really good part about this device is the support. Mine suddenly decided to stop working about 11 months after I bought it, so I contacted the company and they quickly replaced it with no questions asked. That impressed the hell out of me and is why it deserves 5 stars.
Satechi TR-A Timer Remote Review Aug 27, 2010 Great product that works perfectly. I've used it many times already for astrophotography and timelapse photography, works just as described. Cheap compared to other products, but it doesn't feel or look cheap. If you wanna do astrophotography or timelapse photography, I would definately look at this product. Its budget friendly and an awesome tool for your collection. If I could make any nit pick suggestions...it would be maybe a longer cord, or a longer cord add-on accessory. If I could make a bolder suggestion...that would be to make it wireless. Cause man, the mosquitos are bad here in the summer. If I could set the timer while standing behind my back porch screen door say 10 ft away...Score. But thats being really picky. Wireless would also drive the price up and that would defeat the purpose of me buying this product. It is a great price compared to similar products. I ordered three things from amazon the same time I ordered this, and this came first. I recommend this product. Thanks
Time lapses like youve never made them before. Aug 15, 2010 This piece of equipment is absolutely amazing. Its easy to use, took me about 2 minutes to get very familiar with how to use all the functions, and it is very durable. I recently made a 21 day trip to africa where I was doing 3-6 hour timelapses almost daily and somehow I never once ran out of batteries. I took 6 extra AAA batteries with me expecting to have to replace them after one or 2 times but I never had any use for them. I even forgot to turn the piece off for an entire day and it is still going now. The options on it are great and the ability to simply set an infinite number of shutter openings and closings was something that I found nice where I could just watch the count go down on my camera. It works amazingly well for star trails (15-30 minute exposures) and sky timelapses with simple increments of 10 seconds will give you amazing potential to creat the best timelapse videos. This timer is absolutely worth the money and it very strongly deserves a 5/5.
It's cheap, and ultimately it does work... but it's a hassle. Aug 11, 2010 It's cheap, and ultimately it does work... but it's a hassle to scroll through #s like on an early digital watch, For example, if I want to take an unlimited number of shots for a time-lapse (my only option after 399 shots) I have to scroll forward through every number from one to 399, and then one more.... oops, I did two more, now I have to start over and scroll from one to 399 again (and it takes MINUTES to hold the button down and scroll forward to 399) and one... more, oops! Not again! In other words, this simple device won't go backward from 1 to "unlimited" to 399, 398, etc. It has to go forward, 1, 2, 3... Argh!
Plus, it's just laid out un-intuitively. I ALWAYS need to use the poorly written manual to figure out how to use it, and this is usually in the dark, with a fading headlamp. Sure, I've gotten a beautiful starry time-lapses with this and my 7D, but... I find myself now trying to justify spending $160 more dollars on an actual Canon remote, with a (wonderful) scroll dial... and better functionality overall.
Works great and excellent price Jul 21, 2010 I received my Satechi timer remote several days early (shipping estimates for ground were about a week). The device was self-explanatory on how to connect it to my camera. I did have to read the instruction manual to get the general UI summary for how the device worked. But all told it maybe took 1-2 mins to get the gist and before I knew it I had it working on a 5 second interval taking 20 shots. Really pleased with my purchase and highly recommend this product over the expensive competitor version offered by cannon.
Currently the top rated review which is anchored to the top of the review section mentions the device not having an 'off' switch. This is no longer the case there is in fact an on/off switch.
