5The Nikon logo must cost you $100?  Sep 07, 2008 By Michelle
This is the exact model of remote you can find for the Nikon D300 on Nikon's own site (and here on Amazon >> NIKON MC-36 Multi-Function Remote Cord ( 33.5 inches )). The only thing it is lacking is a Nikon logo emblazoned across it, which apparently makes about a $100 difference in pricing.

Why pay more?

It plugs in to your 10-pin adapter and can be screwed into place so it doesn't pop out on you, too. Works wonderfully and I look forward to really putting it through the motions. Very sturdy remote (unlike the wireless for the same price which looked as though it might fall apart in the mail!)

PLEASE NOTE: They appear to have changed the body style of this product (writing this as of November 2009). The one I bought had a bit more substance (it was longer). I haven't used the model currently advertised, so I couldn't answer whether the compacting of the remote would make it harder to keep a handle on.

3Worked fine for 10 months - then died.  Jan 23, 2010 By D. Aswad "ZinLover"
!. This unit is NOT identical to the Nikon MC-36 despite what another reviewer said. It does not even look exactly the same.
2. Another reviewer's comment about the bulb button being difficult to slide and lock is correct in my experience.
3. The timer is very useful (essential) for my long exposures of chemiluminescent images in the dark and I was very happy with it until it broke after 10 months - a bad wire connection in the cord.
4. Customer service seems good so far. The unit is still under warranty (1 yr) and they quickly sent me a form by email to fill out for a return/replacement.
5. Since a remote timer is needed for our Nikon D700 on an almost daily basis, loss of use for even a few days is very inconvenient. As a result I am buying the Nikon MC-36 as my primary timer and will use the Satechi replacement as a backup.
6. Unless you are a professional, or a heavy user of such a timer like me, the Satechi is probably a good buy and may last much longer than mine.

3It's OK, but not worth the price.  Nov 19, 2009 By Lenz
I picked up this timer remote instead of the Nikon MC-36 for 1/2 it's cost. However I don't think this remote is worth $60.

Pros: seems to be well built, batteries included, clear manual, the timer functions work as advertised.

Cons: price, shutter button is intermittent, shutter manual lock is really hard to engage - you need 2 hands, shutter delay when using manual button.

The company were very quick to ship the item, but the product they sell is not very good.

4Almost 5 star  Oct 24, 2008 By Jeffrey Silva
I got the remote very quickly & it worked fine with my Nikon D300. However, the locking sleeve thread did not engage the Nikon socket -- meaning that the connection might, with use, work loose & become unreliable. I contacted the seller & they shipped a replacement instantly. Everything on the replacement works perfectly, & I love the service. Since the initial product was defective & I've not used the replacement for long I can't go five stars here. However, the buying experience, shipping speed & service level is hard to beat: I wouldn't hesitate to order another item & I expect this remote to function as well as Nikon's branded unit -- for a much better value (I love Nikon but hate the name tax they add to accessories.)

2Poor quality control  Jan 03, 2011 By bunnyaz
The timer remote itself performs as claimed. However, the threaded locking ring would not thread into the 10-pin plug-in slot. This would cause disconnetion during operation resulting incorrect exposure. I reported this to the seller and their response was prompt and courteous. A replacement unit was sent but with the same defect. Again the seller apologized for the defect. I asked for a "tested" replacement. Their response was that they couldn't test their product on this camera model. By the way, I bought it for a Nikon D200. They claim that this product will work on all Nikon Dxxx models. Well if it doesn't work on D200 I doubt it will work on other Nikon Dxxx models.
