WINDOWS– Because Windows supports Multi-Stream Transport (MST), the dock can output video to three or four screens in extended mode, which is very convenient for creators and gamers.

MAC– Mac supports Single Stream Transport (SST) so it can output video in extended mode to two screens and mirror the other two. M1 and M2 Macs only support one external monitor, meaning only one single video group can be used at a time with output to one screen in extended mode and one screen in mirror mode.

Transferring external storage will also be a breeze with two UHS-2 SD and Micro SD card slots that can be used simultaneously with a high transfer speed of 312MBs – perfect for content creators, photographers, videographers, etc.

  • Base model M1/M2 MacBooks are limited to only one display.
  • Base model M3 MacBook Air and Pro only support two displays (4K@60Hz) when closed and in Clamshell Mode.

Just what I needed to streamline my setup

I bought this dock to help alleviate some headaches caused by a different manufacturer's thunderbolt 3 dock I had been using for years. To begin each work day, I would have to constantly fidget with certain outputs and hope that the device would remember my previous configuration from less than 24 hours prior. Over time, it became part of my daily workflow, but eventually I decided Enough is Enough.

After much research and peer evaluation, I landed on this Satechi dock as my final solution. I actually purchased another Thunderbolt 4 dock from Satechi prior to this, but ended up giving that one to a new hire for his welcome gift. This allowed me to pick up this particular model (Thunderbolt 4 Multimedia Pro Dock), which I like better due to having a power button and multiple HDMI and Display Port ports right on the back of the unit. No more need for adapters and finagling.
